QCC supports importers through a variety of services designed to create fair and competitive marketplaces based on unified standards to ensure the safety of consumers. The portfolio of services for importers will be deployed throughout 2011-2012.

Market Assurance
QCC ensures a fair trading environment in Abu Dhabi by providing verification of measuring instruments used in Abu Dhabi’s markets as well as pre-packaged goods sold. The verification service includes sealing and labeling of measuring instruments to give confidence in the accuracy of measuring instruments including tariff meters and trade weighing machines. QCC conducts market inspections to ensure all measurement instruments used in trade have been verified to international standards.

Standards Enquiry
QCC provides importers with an up-to-date source of information on UAE and Abu Dhabi standards used by regulators across Abu Dhabi Emirate. This service benefits importers by providing access to standards expertise and a resource for identifying mandatory technical regulations in the Emirate.

Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) Search and Selection
QCC provides importers with information for identifying and selecting conformity assessment bodies (CABs) both in Abu Dhabi and internationally. QCC designates local and international CABs to fulfill the requirements of Abu Dhabi’s regulators and industry in areas where local capacity does not meet the required testing demand.

Measurement Standards and Calibration
QCC is the authority responsible for operating the Abu Dhabi Metrology Centre, positioned as the highest source of measurement in the region. The Abu Dhabi Metrology Centre will support importers through equipment calibration for mass, length, time, force, pressure and temperature. The Metrology Centre will be launched in 2012.

Conformity and Safety Mark Services
QCC undertakes continuous monitoring of Abu Dhabi’s markets, community and environment in partnership with relevant authorities to identify risks and control products where safety is a concern. In coordination with ESMA, QCC acts to control dangerous goods through the Emirate’s mandatory safety scheme. QCC works with ESMA to identify and implement bans on products that cannot be rendered safe through technical regulation. QCC provides importers with information on safety mark issuance and type approval for trade of controlled goods in Abu Dhabi.

QCC issues voluntary and regulated conformity marks through Abu Dhabi’s quality infrastructure and network of testing laboratories and certification bodies; providing a service to issue certifications and marks for conforming products. QCC is committed to supporting importers in creating awareness and market demand for products meeting voluntary conformity program requirements.

Product Recall
QCC provides importers and local manufacturers with product recall alerts. QCC tracks and responds to local and international product recalls; broadcasting alerts for product recalls and conducting market surveillance to ensure product recalls are implemented effectively in Abu Dhabi Emirate.
